Smart Parking

In line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 Vision, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, and the High Authority for the Development of Arriyadh, through their executive arm the Arriyadh Development Authority, appointed Surface Mobility Consultants to manage developing and administering a contract to appoint a consortium to carry out the design, build operate and transfer of an on-street and off-street smart parking management system to achieve the following high-level goals:

  1. Deter illegal parking and promote short-term parking on commercial corridors
  2. Enhance overall customer parking services in the city

The project consists of the following elements:

  1. Rehabilitate, operate, and maintain all on-street parking spaces within the project area
  2. Carry out any geometric changes or road configuration changes necessary to maximize the number of available parking spaces within the project area
  3. Design, finance, construct, operate and maintain off-street parking facilities and structures, offering the maximum number of parking spaces within the project area
  4. Collect parking fees and other authorized revenues and income generated by the parking facilities
  5. Share revenue generated between pre-defined public agencies and private entities
  6. Operate and Maintain all parking facilities (on-street and off-street) and all associated street furniture and back office systems for a period of 15 years
  7. Enforce municipal parking laws and regulations and issue fines to vehicles in violations thereof

RIYADH

Surface Mobility are preparing a 10 Year Smart Mobility Master Plan for The Arriyadh Development Authority in Riyadh, which will serve as the medium to long term vision for Smart Mobility in the city of Riyadh.

The plan will provide mobility options that work for all people and will ensure a future that allows residents of Riyadh to meet their daily needs. The Smart Mobility Master Plan will include multimodal transportation improvement projects for the city and address all modes of transportation. The common thread tying all projects together is the concept and a need for higher-order mass transit to support high-volume transportation corridors.

The plan will assist Riyadh to become a world-class city, offering a high-quality of life with a diverse and robust economy, and connected and walkable communities.

The plan includes an Existing Conditions Report, International Benchmarking Study, Needs Assessment, Gap Analysis, ITS Action Plan, the building blocks to prepare an ITS Architecture and a road map to implementation for the next 10 years.

ITS Multimodal

Surface Mobility established a Multimodal ITS and OCC Framework for Dubai RTA, as part of this project we provided all Project Management and Technical support to Establish:

  1. Multimodal ITS Policies adhering to world class practices and standards, and consistently enable optimized multimodal integration and interoperability.
  2. Establish a target Multimodal ITS Architecture aligned with global standards and approaches including TOGAF ISO, ARC-IT and Eframe.
  3. Establish a repeatable Audit and Governance Framework to ensure the developed policies, transition roadmap, standards and guidance are consistently adhered to.

The project ensured mode, sector, and agency wide interoperability and flexibility of systems that will accommodate future Multimodal ITS developments.

As part of the full project a number of major milestones were achieved including the overall alignment of the Multimodal ITS Architecture with the RTA’s Enterprise Architecture and Future Digital Capabilities.

HD Mapping

Surface Mobility are Project Managing the development of policies, architecture, standards and specifications for the provision of High Definition Mapping which will assist in the implementation of Self-Driving transport in Dubai.

Dubai RTA have identified HD maps are identified as a key enabler for Self Driving Transport, and a successful HD map deployment can be seen as a key enabler for Pilot Projects and demonstrations for EXPO2020 and also towards the vision of a self-driving future.

HD maps will enable prediction of the Self Driving Transport of future situations by knowing the detailed way ahead​. Safety can be enhanced/ensured, and Ride comfort and therefore user acceptance can be increased by allowing predictive driving.

Connected Cloud

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced that by 2030, 25% of all trips in Dubai will be driverless.

In order to meet this requirement, Surface Mobility are Project Managing the development of policies, architecture, standards and specifications for the provision of a Connected Cloud for Self-Driving transport in Dubai.

The purpose of the connected cloud is to be the central element connecting all elements (enterprises, infrastructure and users) where and when required and provide an efficient and holistic connected cloud ecosystem which will serve as a key enabler towards an intelligent future transport system around connected and self-driving transport.
